New Zealand artist, Kathryn Carter is interested in painting the effects of light on landscape. She paints in Northland and Auckland with the images of Matapouri Bay and the Poor Knights Islands reoccurring in her painting. Although the paintings are not always tied to a literal view of Northland, island landscapes or seascapes, they provide a departure point for an investigation into a perceptual experience of seeing.
The New Zealand landscape is constantly changing with many seasons occurring in a day and therefore, the constant change provides continuous variation in the visual field.
Kathryn Carter is a resident artist and exhibitor at Auckland’s Railway Street Studios. Her full CV is available for viewing and her available paintings are exhibited there.
This website shows a small selection of images of Kathryn’s paintings.
